WHAT IS MY FAMILY'S ROLE ON THE CLINICAL TEAM?

Your involvement as an active member of your child's clinical team is an essential component to the effectiveness of planned interventions. You are the expert about your child and your account of your child's development will be very important.

You will be encouraged to observe and participate in the assessment process, both to share information about your child's development as well as to work directly with the team to obtain accurate information about your child's abilities. You may be asked to fill out questionnaires, assessments, or gather information about your child's developmental history. Service providers will rely on you to share with them your concerns, struggles, hopes or suggestions for your child's development. This information will help the team to create meaningful services that will meet your individual needs.

You will also be encouraged to bring along other family members (grandparents or other supportive persons) as needed for support. Later, you may decide to include your extended family or other caregivers in the treatment plan. The extent to which your family is involved in your child's treatment will depend on the needs and desires of each family member.

At home, you will be encouraged by clinicians to carry out structured interventions within the daily life routines of your family. Service providers will help you to understand and carry out planned interventions that will help to promote skill development.

If you have questions or concerns about your child's treatment be sure to discuss these with your service providers. For general information about EIIS you can call the regional coordinator at (902) 749-5667 or toll free: 1-866-762-3383.
